Hi! I’m Maria from Finland. I started this blog since I want to share my travel tips and stories with anyone who is curious about nomadic lifestyle and has similar mindset towards traveling solo.
I have squeezed my life into one backpack for now and thus I called my blog accordingly “life in the backpack”. My open-minded and adventurous personality makes my everyday life unpredictable and fun and thus I often gain very unique travel experiences.
I always wanted to go travelling full time and I decided that now is a great time for me to do so. In January 2022 I sold my stuff and quit my job and bought a one way flight ticket to Malaga, Spain. My grandmother is spending her winters in Spain and I chose to start my journey by visiting her and letting her pamper me for few weeks. After Spain I visited Germany, Belgium and Mexico and currently I am living my island life in Mauritius.
From corporate cosmetics company to the beach-life without makeup
I graduated from university in 2020 with a master’s degree in international business. I wrote my thesis about distribution Korean cosmetics in Nordic market and I was extremely passionate about this topic at that time. At the end of 2020 I got a job in the biggest beauty company in Finland and I was working in a marketing team as a Point of sales coordinator.
However, I had dreamed about traveling full-time for many years and I could not stop thinking about it. I felt inspired by people who did so, but nobody from my group of friends really had the same goal. Since pandemic started in 2020 I had to put my dream aside and focus on my career. But you know how if you really want something you can’t really stop thinking about it, right?
Soo that’s why I am here now. I just had to be brave enough to jump into unknown and I am still trying to figure everything out. I hope I can also inspire people to be brave enough to do what they really want in life.
