Do you want to enjoy your day at the beach with a scenic view and crystal clear water? If yes, then Rummu Quarry is definitely worth your visit! This Quarry was opened in 1938 and former prisoners were used as labour to mine limestone and marble here. Now that the work at the Quarry and the drainage of water has stopped, the quarry has flooded and turned into a lake.
We visited Rummu Quarry during our motorcycle road trip from Helsinki to Pärnu in August 2022. I was surprised that in addition to swimming and hiking you can enjoy various additional activities that I mention later in this post.
I recommend that you visit this place on a sunny day because the views looks so much more beautiful under the sunlight! Also, you will be able to see the submerged industrial buildings, equipment and trees under the water more clearly.
What will you find at the Quarry?
When you arrive to this location you will be able to leave your car to a designated free parking spot. However, entrance fee to visit the area is 5 euros per person. When you buy a day ticket to the quarry you will get a wrist band at the gate and you will be able to enter the area multiple times throughout the day.
You can buy the tickets here.
At the property you will find a beach cafe with a nice terrace where you will be able to buy drinks and food. On the menu you can find ice cream, poke bowls, coffee, alcoholic drinks etc. Next to the cafe there is also an open library, toilets and changing booths.
You can swim and snorkel in the Quarry lake and if you enjoy water activities you can also rent pedal boats for 15e/h. Scuba diving, SUP tours and boat rides are also available at the territory, but they are offered by another company.
You will also find a floating waterpark at the property that is open from 10am – 8pm. 1 hour ticket costs 8e per person and additional hour is 4e per hour.
I personally really enjoyed the small hike to the ash mountain and the view from the top was very lovely. Apparently the mountain itself was created from the waste of the prison industry. Despite that it looks really cool.

Great post as always!
I’ve been there once couple of years ago and the place is so beautiful, definitely worth to visit!
